Stephen W. Abbott
Stephen W. Abbott (Steve) joined Looper Goodwine in 2025, practicing in the firm’s Houston office. He has over twenty years of experience in litigation, focusing his practice on the litigation of intellectual property matters and complex commercial disputes. Steve has litigated general civil and complex commercial disputes, as well as intellectual property disputes, including the theft of trade secrets, patent infringement, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and licensing disputes. Steve has obtained success for his clients in court, arbitration, and mediation.
Steve represents clients facing complex legal issues in transactional and litigation matters who have diverse intellectual property interests in a variety of technologies, including GPS devices, automotive technologies, telematics, onshore and offshore oil and gas technologies, wireless communications systems, and software behavior control systems. While Steve’s primary focus has been in intellectual property litigation, his commercial practice for clients includes any number of transactional matters. He also enjoys advising clients in other aspects of their business.
Steve graduated cum laude with a B.S. in English and History from Texas Tech University in 1992 and received his J.D. from Texas Tech University in 1996. While attending Texas Tech University, he was the recipient of a one-year scholarship for his service with the Board of Barristers as its Chairman of Texas Tech’s Trial Advocacy Programs. While in law school, Steve clerked for the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office and worked on a variety of appellate matters and prosecuted and tried a number of misdemeanor crimes. He also clerked for a prominent general civil litigation law firm in Lubbock and devoted much of his time to the United Way’s Legal Aid Society by assisting with the litigation of family law disputes on behalf of indigent clients.
